Thy Kingdom Come Begins Tomorrow! (Thurs, 5/21)

Thy Kingdom Come

“Thy Kingdom Come” is a global prayer movement that was started by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, in 2016. It is ten days of prayer between the Feast of the Ascension (May 21) and Pentecost (May 31) where we join with the global church in praying these two great prayers of the Church: thy kingdom come and come Holy Spirit. We pray in a dedicated way for the witness of the gospel to go forth into our world in this moment of our history and over the course of these ten days, we pray daily for five people to encounter Jesus and the love of God in a real and personal way.

As we participate in “Thy Kingdom Come,” we will offer three special elements:

1. A Ten Day Devotional Guide
2. Special worship services
3. Interactive Journaling via our Facebook Connect Group

To help focus our prayers for these ten days, we are providing this 10-Day devotional guide. It includes ten written reflections on “the Lord’s Prayer” to be read in the morning, and a set of reflection questions to consider in the evenings. Each day ends with the prayer for the day.

The reflections on the Lord’s Prayer in this devotional were written by members of both All Angels Church and St. Peter’s Chelsea. Five reflections were written by members of All Angels, and five were written by members of St. Peter’s. You can find brief biographical information about each author appended to their reflections. This may add depth and context to what they share.

Both parishes want to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the writers from the two congregations, who have contributed their time and love to guide us these ten days. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us.

We will be conducting three services to frame our ten days of prayer. They are:

FEAST OF THE ASCENSION–Thurs, 5/21 at 7PM–This service will be held at All Angels Church and livestreamed through St. Peter’s Chelsea’s YouTube channel. Click here to go directly to that YouTube channel.

LET US PRAY: Lament, Repentance, and Reconciliation–Wed, 5/27 at 7PM–A service of Evening Prayer with a special focus on seeking justice in the midst of a pandemic. Hosted on All Angels Church’s Facebook LIVE page.

PENTECOST SUNDAY–Sun, 5/31 at 10AM–Pentecost worship livestreamed from on All Angels Church’s Facebook LIVE page, with special elements to commemorate the feast day and conclude our ten day journey.

We are inviting interaction on the daily reflections through the All Angels Church Connect Group on Facebook.

We hope this space is used in several ways. You might, for instance, post your thoughts on the days’ reflection and invite more conversation. Or, you might be inspired to do something artistic, like draw or paint, or take a photograph. You could upload images of that artistic offering to the Connect Group page as well.

Be creative. Use your imagination. We’d love to see how God inspires you in these coming days.
